Registering to Vote! 2/6/2012

DALTONMEDFORD

GOVERMENT/ LAWS

Everybody is always excited to turn the big one - eight, being able to buy cigarettes and lottery tickets, and officially being an adult. Turning eighteen also means gaining masses of responsibilities. One of the most important responsibilities is to vote.

After turning eighteen, everybody needs to register to vote. It gives young adults an opportunity to voice their opinion in the community. There are multiple locations to register to vote, including: County Clerk’s Offices, County Election Commission, Office Department of Health (WIC program), Department of Human Services, Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, Department of Safety (motor vehicles division), and Department of Veteran’s Affairs, Public Libraries, and Register of Deeds Offices. Visiting any of these locations allow personal registration. Also, there is an opportunity to mail in the application to the local county election commission. The application can be downloaded off of tn.gov.

Furthermore, there are other qualifications needed to register. These qualifications consist of being a resident of Tennessee, having full rights of citizenship (no felonies), and qualifying thirty days before election.
