2012 Winter X-Games 2/6/2012

BY AUSTIN ABEE

EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

The 2012 Winter X-Games took place in Aspen, Colorado. During the course of the games, many records were set and shattered. Snow mobiles were flipping, Tomatoes were flying, I-Pods were playing, gators were rolling, and all the while snow continued falling.

To begin the X-Games, a special ceremony was held in honor of Sarah Burke, the Canadian freeskier who died of injuries obtained during training in Utah. Following the ceremony, events continued as normal with the men's and women's: ski and snowboard, big air, super pipe, and snowmobile freestyle and best trick. During these events, numerous new records were set.

Shaun White took gold in men's snowboard super pipe for the 5th straight year, and managed to receive the only perfect score in history. Both of these are incredible accomplishments.

Heath Frisby became the first person to ever land a front flip on a snowmobile in competition, even after watching his predecessor crash while attempting a double-back flip. He was able to maintain focus and determination to perform this amazing feat.

Amongst these records were many more, adding to the hype surrounding these winter games, and far surpassing the expectations.
