AP European History

Taught by Tanya Wolfenbarger, major themes of Advanced Placement European History are: Intellectual and Cultural History, Political and Diplomatic, and Social and Economic. Mrs. Wolfenbarger notes, "East does not offer a regular European History course, so if a student is interested in the subject they should take Advanced Placement European History."

The class is a year-long class and the student will earn one credit upon passing each semester (for a total of 2 credits). An AP College Board test is administered in the spring and can be used as college credit if a high enough score is achieved. This is the same class offered at UT Knoxville called Western Civilization 1 and 2.

According to Mrs. Wolfenbarger, "Students benefit from the smaller class size when taken in high school. I have been able to interact with my all my students, learn where their weak spots are, and work with them on a daily basis."

The goals of the Advanced Placement course in European History are for students to understand the basic narrative of the events and movements in European History. Students should know the basic chronology of the major events and trends from approximately 1300- to the present and develop an understanding of the principal themes in modern European History, an ability to analyze historical evidence, and an ability to analyze and express historical understanding in writing.
