Description of the Summer Internship Program:

Students can apply and be chosen for a six to eight week paid summer internship with a local business or industry in a related field to the student's area of study or interest. Most internships are paid $10.00 per hour and work between 20-40 hours for six to eight weeks in the summer. The program begins in early June. Most businesses are flexible with a summer vacation if planned in advance. Students are supervised during the internship by one of our Work Based Learning Supervisors that check in on students and talk with the business as well to make sure all is going well. Students are required to create a portfolio during the experience and take part in a presentation at the end. At the end of the day, students that have taken part in this offering have for the most part either solidified their plans or in some cases they have realized that this is not something they want to do. Either way that is a winning situation! Hamblen County offers programs of study in 13 of the 16 state recognized career clusters and we try to find internships in as many of those as possible. Our biggest partnerships fall in the advanced manufacturing sector, but it is important to understand that our major industries have needs for students in machining, electrical fields, informational technology IT, business, accounting, marketing, and other related jobs. We are expanding those opportunities this year. Other internships will be offered by Morristown Utilities, several medical related positions, TWRA, US Forestry, and we are working on other career fields such as government, law enforcement, and even the political realm.
